Menotti ReMixed - A New Look at the Operas of Gian Carlo Menotti and Samuel Barber

Composer surveys and thematic programs continually comprise Frost Opera Theater student performance. Past programs have included Britten and Beyond, Verismo Variations, SuperNatural Scenes, Visions of Orpheus, MozArtMostly@Opera Scenes in Concert, and Lully to Debussy.
For Fall 2020, opera students will delve deep into the works of Gian Carlo Menotti and Samuel Barber with scene excerpts selected from Menotti's Amelia at the Ball, The Medium, The Telephone, Maria Golovin, The Old Maid and the Thief, The Consul, Help Help the Globolinks, The Last Savage, Goya, and Barber's Hand of Bridge, Vanessa, Antony and Cleopatra.

Frost Opera Theater collaborates with Ensemble Ibis for an end of semester music workshop of this opera-in-progress, an opera commissioned by LA Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, and Austin Opera. A silent, waiting grove. A violent encounter between a Samurai and his wife and a notorious brigand. Seven testimonies, each offering up a different perspective on the crime. Note: This workshop will not be a publicly attended event.
